  •  Okay, I just read the Murdock article (1+ / 0-)

and one thing I see missing from his analysis is he's comparing the total of pay of men divided by the number of men to the total pay of woman divided by the number of women.

What he doesn't account for is length of service. How many of these people have been working in government for years?

He doesn't compare responsibilities. The job duties of a manager are different than those of an assistant. He doesn't compare skill sets.

And, as you pointed out, he's trying to make it look like the non-partisan group, Legistorm, that accumulated data responsible for his numbers to the point that they had to post a disclaimer on their site for his work (just like had to when the McCain campaign was claiming they had backed up some of their erroneous claims).

Also, I noticed this notation at Legistorm:

Congressional staff salaries shown are the amount paid in the period shown. They are not annual salaries. Because bonuses may be included here and other payments may not be (most notably with aides working for multiple offices or for a political campaign committee), please use caution in extrapolating annual salaries from the figures shown here.

I bet you anything this is a case of Murdock manipulating the numbers to prove his case.

    •  Yes, usually one is very clear about the source (0+ / 0-)

of data and who did the analysis. I hope an independent entity like will do something with this.

My diary, which didn't catch much excitement:

McCain and the Rethugs are churning out more rancid whoppers than Burger King.
