  •  The particulars are instructive. (0+ / 0-)

However, they are not going to be persuasive to someone who believes that nature demands a social hierarchy and a hierarchy requires that some people be on top and some on the very bottom.  The belief in the natural hierarchy of man then demands that there be no effort to interfere with how humans arrange themselves to, ironically, mirror how the rest of creation is arranged.  I say "ironically" because while the rest of nature is presumed to be fixed (no evolution or re-ranking of species), humans are presumably able to move up or down the hierarchy on their own hook.  I guess that's where "free will" comes in--the will to climb up over others and hold others down.

People who work for wages, according to this system, are naturally inferior and ought not to be paid anything at all.  They should be satisfied just to be kept alive.  If they want to be free of their shackles, they need to be subservient (obedient to the law).

In any event, it's a fairly consistent system of social organization, if you discard the right to liberty, justice and equality.  There's a right to life, but keeping it has to be deserved by being subservient--and voluntarily so, now that involuntary servitude has been ruled out, except for the criminal.

How do you tell a predator from a protector? The predator will eat you sooner rather than later.
