  •  HYDROGEN ECONOMY = boondoggle (0+ / 0-)

The Hydrogen Economy is a big ol' boondoggle. Hydrogen is just flat nasty to handle - the only thing that makes sense is ammonia.

    •  For fuel cells, I mostly agree... (0+ / 0-)

but if you include fusion as part of the hydrogen economy, then it may still be useful. I still have dreams of hydrogen-lofted dirigibles too.

      •  TOTAL BOONDOGGLE (0+ / 0-)

Can you go and buy a fusion generator today? No, did you say? BOONDOGGLE. This crap will be the death of us - if it exists only in theory it is likely to REMAIN a theory given the energy and economic constraints we face.

        •  yes, I can... but it's a net consumer of energy.. (0+ / 0-)

they're working on systems that may be a net producer of energy.

I'm not worried about the economic constraints, the money for research in this field, albeit so large that only governments can fund it, is still a drop in the bucket of our still huge economy.

          •  distraction (0+ / 0-)

Anything we can't buy today pretty much qualifies as a distraction. Fusion has sucked up time and money without producing anything nor does it appear that it ever will. We drop what we're doing in this area, build workable renewables like crazy, and when we're safe we can try some experiments.

The lure of innovation is the enemy when workable solutions just lack political will.
