  •  The campaign office in Erie (6+ / 0-)

seems very well-run.  Everthing seemed organized, people knew what they were doing, etc.  It's on a corner just up the block from the local minor-league baseball stadium.

I didn't get any inside scoop from any of the locals, just sort of showed up, went canvassing, turned in the data and then left for home.

I had never been to Erie before, but the area of town we were in seemed solidly middle class.  It seemed that there were a lot of dormant business buildings in the area and a few too many "for sale" signs on houses so I assume it's like a lot of areas.  Overall, based on our canvass, it seems like there is a lot of support for Obama there, but I assume we were only canvassing independents and Democrats, so our walk list was probably designed from the beginning to not have very many Republicans on it.

Sorry I don't have more detail, but one thing I forgot to mention was that there was a women for Obama rally at the office before everyone went canvassing.  A lot of local politicians, especially females, were there and I think there were somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 people, but we got there late so I'm not completely sure.  There was also a local TV crew (don't remember the station) there as well and my wife spoke to the reporter, but I'm not sure what, if anything, actually got on the broadcast.

Don't base your vote this time on fear...The game of politics is to make you afraid so that you don't think." - Michelle Obama - Council Bluffs Iowa - 8/17/07
