    You're just betting on which way a bundle of assets moves.

    Doing projections gets to complex measures, called "The Greeks" because we use Greek letters for the formulas.

    Differential equations was the core math for this work for decades.

    Now the gurus use very advanced math, indeed.

    BTW: one guy banks $1.5-billion for his work at a hedge fund... for one year's success.
