and she says "Smith has done a lot of good things for Oregon when he has come together with Wyden" blah blah blah - which is odd, since she typically is all "that stupid bush!"  The "that stupid (insert politician here)" started with Reagan.  She was pissed for the majority of the 1980s and the last decade.  She is a registered independent, because the Democrats arent progressive enough.  She is going to volunteer at the Obama headquarters in Portland and does her part by saying in a loud voice "I am going to vote for Obama" as she passes canvassers at her grocery store.  BUT - despite all that - she isnt sold on Merkley, and she thinks Smith has done a decent job.

Remember - Oregonians consider their senators to be ambassadors from the state of Oregon to the seat of power in Washington.  Wyden is the first Democrat in recent memory.  I am just saying.....

Because he had too when the Ds were in the minority, now Wyden is making it clear he has different priorities....

Smith has been miles better in constituent service than Wyden. That's what makes loyal voters here.

I've seen Wyden out and about many times, I've never seen Smith.  Multiple times I've been at the aquarium or the Zoo and seen Wyden standing there under a big sign that says "Senator Wyden's Office Hours."  That's access you don't get from a lot of Senators.

respond to my letters, too. Never from Smith.  Though I know others have received replies from him.

Smith has absolutely horrendous constitutent services.

I've called his office multiple times to weigh in on issues, only to have the person on the phone argue with me at length.

I planned a trip to DC a few years ago and called both Smith and Wyden's offices to get assistance on a White House tour. I left 3 messages at Smith's DC office and 2 in Portland--nobody called me back. My GOP mother even called...nada.

Wyden's office not only called me back, they worked for months to arrange the tour and had us in their DC offices to meet Senator Wyden.  An aide took us on a personal tour of the underground area under the offices and rode the tram with us to the Capitol.

Wyden also visits every county in Oregon each year. Smith is horrible about holding open, public events.  Its practically impossible to talk to him.
