    I didn't enjoy reading Tales of the South Pacific as much as, say, Hawaii, but I would never have imagined it could have made a musical, and that fact that it did and was so groundbreaking in its own way is remarkable enough for a mention.  I think his 'epic history' novels make better miniseries, such as Centennial.

    But you know, if you're bringing up musicals, you're going to make me start talking about the marvel that is Les Miserables, and neither you nor I have all day!

    (Dare I admit that I read The Story of the Trapp Family Singers?  Very, very different from The Sound of Music!)
