and many hours of volunteer work under my belt.  I share your frustration re: the Senate race.  I was hopeful last winter and the polls were starting to look good in June.  Tom is such a stand-up guy and would make a great Senator.

Maybe it was those anti-union ads that made the difference, I don't know.  I've never seen such an organized field operation as the Dems have this year.  We're making tons of calls and knocking on lots of doors, but the numbers don't seem to be turning our way.

We'll keep plugging and keep hoping.  Incumbency is tough to overcome. Thanks for the great story & picture.  Stay dry!

    •  I don't think it was the ads (0+ / 0-)

I think it's been years of Maine media cheerleading Collins and Snowe.  The "bi-partisan moderate" meme and the "she works for Maine" meme is thoroughly intrenched and hard to shake regardless of evidence to the contrary.  On the bright side we will certainly have to great reps in the house: Pingree and Michaud!

individuals with their personal problems. These stories get around, and help people vote against their larger interests.

The Maine media is just starting to come around; it's unfortunate that it is at the same time that he/she said "journalism" is the vogue, and also while they are cutting staff.

Unlike you, I have talked to several people while making Voter ID calls who specifically mentioned those ads.  At least one told me that sewed up his vote for Collins. It took me a while to convince him otherwise.

I know that's only an anecdote, but if you look at the polling numbers, Allen was up in June and July, then plunged back down in the pas month.  Just saying.

I'm hoping the financial crisis will finally get people to wake up and realize that Collins is a Republican, no matter what she [or the media] says.
