You guys are all responding the same all the panicked Democrats in Congress did to the Iraqi war resolution.

Shame on you.  This is way too important to just pass "the first thing that we get to vote on".  You screw this up, our children pay for it.  Make the right bill.  Wall Street can wait a week.

Is clearly not thinking rationally.  This is the logic that got us the Patriot Act.  You're on the verge of an all-out panic and you just want something done, doesn't matter what.

you dont know me at all then.  I am a very logical and rational person.  Profanity has NOTHING to do with irrationality otherwise bill mahr would be considered a moron.

          •  No, but using random caps and a lack of logic.. (0+ / 0-)

You still haven't responded to the point:  why we should do this just for the sake of doing something.  We have no idea if it's going to help.  A lot of very smart people don't think it will.

We deserve a thorough debate to find out the truth rather than people like you trying to ram through the first bill we get just so we can take action.

decided that this situation is identical and should be treated as though we are repeating history. Sorry, this is an all new situation and your idealized solution for one can't be applied willynilly to the other.

          •  That doesn't mean we can't learn (0+ / 0-)

It is an all new situation, but you're ignoring that we have, in the past, been forcefed legislation that nobody understood the impact of and that turned out to be absolutely atrocious.

How many people would have liked to have that vote back?  Do you not think we can live with a couple days more discussion to make sure this isn't the same thing?  What kind of progressive are you?

    •  your attempt to conflate the Bailout with Iraq (1+ / 0-)

is masking the fact that time is money. Time is a significant factor in this equation. We don't have time to create the kind of legislation to do all things for all people. Not with the congress we have and in the middle of a presidential campaign with politicking at an all time high.

I would love this to be something we could just ignore. But we aren't that lucky.

Then tomorrow Pelosi should propose a full progressive bill with everything we want.  Pass it on straight party lines and dare Bush to veto it.

But it isn't that simple, is it?  Either way, something noticably better than today's bill will be passed on Thursday, and the markets in a few weeks will end up precisely where they would had this passed.
