in the UK--some insight on real socialized health care would be very welcome in this forum!

I want to do some research to have all the information correct to try and counter some of the comments on waiting times for treatment. From my own personal experience, it is a wonderful system and I've always had excellent caring doctors (GPs) and specialists. If you think that people would be interested, I'd be glad to do it. Given that I spent the majority of my life in the states, I can definitely compare the systems, although I am not an expert by any means.

After the election here! All your hard work will too quickly scroll down in the avalanche of news till then!  That is tremendous, because here, hearing aids run from $1500 to $3,000 a piece.

It is easier to get a cochlear implant - $65,000. covered because it is surgery.  Go figure!

progressive hearing loss and I realised that my old analogue (also free from the NHS) just wasn't up to snuff. I went to my GP, they did a quick ear test, then referred me to the ENT. They scheduled me for an MRI to see if there was an additional problem and checked my hearing. I had the new hearing aid for the left ear in 2 weeks. They asked if I wanted one for the right ear, which is less bad and I declined. When the ear piece broke and when I realised how bad the right was after the adjustment on the left, I told them I changed my mind. Right then, they retested me, took the moulds (I need special ones as I am allergic to everything) and in 2 weeks I was able to pick up the new ear piece and the new hearing aid. They even gave me batteries for free. I cannot tell you what a difference it makes and what a relief that I don't have to worry about the cost.

I'll write a piece on the NHS after the election is over, thanks for the idea and the support.
