I just confirmed with the Palm Beach Elections Supervisor's office via email that "uncontested" elections do not appear on the ballot.

This completely baffles me.  It means the incumbent gets automatically re-elected if no one opposes him/her.

I'll just add it to my list of things that are seriously wrong with our democracy.

What else is going to happen?  If the person is unopposed they only need a single vote to win.  If there are no registered write-in candidates (yes, you actually have to register as a write-in to qualify) then there's no way they can lose.

Maybe there's a problem in that no one is running against them, but that's not a problem with the voting system.

In Britain they admit to having royalty. In the United States we pretend we don't have any, and then we elect them president.

I should at least have the option not to vote at all.

Seems to me, if you are going to be put back in office, you should have to be actually elected, even if its just a formality.

        •  You do have that option (none)
In fact, they helpfully exercise the option for you to not vote automatically. Modern democracy inaction!
