About 47 million people do not have health insurance at some point during the year. That does not mean they have no health care at all.  They may pay for it in cash, or go to the emergency room or free clinics.  Some, no doubt, don't get necessary care. But the statement that 47 million people do without health care is just false.

...that millions do go without health care because they don't have coverage. And those who wait until things are bad enough to show up in an an emergency room often damage their long-term health and shorten the life spans.

to the doctor, because they can't afford co-pays, prescriptions, and other out-of-pocket costs.

I would bet the number of UNDERinsured combined with uninsured would boggle the minds of some people who have "good" insurance.

they have good insurance until they get sick, like the people in the TV ad.

We only know how many of those there are when they go under.

There's no statistic for those who live on the edge for years at a time.
