  •  McCain might unhinge during 2nd or 3rd debate (10+ / 0-)

He's going into an increasingly cornered and angry state of mind.  Between the anger-prone temperament that he had even prior to Vietnam, and his steamer trunk sized PTSD, I almost can't watch what is likely to happen.  It's just going to be sad and embarrassing.

    •  I hope he explodes like a pressure cooker left on (11+ / 0-)

      the stove all day!!!

Sarah Palin is just another Karl Rove in lipstick and stilettos.

    •  Should Obama save an attack on McCain's personal (5+ / 0-)

life if McCain goes real racially negative in one of these debates? Remember McCain is not above this type of thing. He was against MLK day for YEARS, later admitting he did it for electoral politics. He supported flying the confederate flag then after the 2004 SC primary went on TV admitting he made a mistake and didn't do it for the right reasons.

If McCain brings up Resko and then goes into racial attacks:
Obama could say something like this "I have been through many tough times with my wife both in sickness and health, and we struggled together even when we both were starting out with very little money, we never sacrificed our vows to get rich."

This would send McCain apeshit, but it would be subtle enough that most of the public wouldn't pick up on it right away. That is until the next day when cable news would go ballistic. It would also then require the media to go into McCain's past relationship/ex-wife most American's don't know much about this.

This attack of course should be like a nuke, only used as a last resort because it would affect both campaigns.  Only if McCain goes racial would I use this.

      •  Or, it could get REALLY personal (9+ / 0-)

"Cindy McCain insisted on a pre-nuptial agreement before she married John McCain.  If she didn't trust him with her money, why should you trust him with your country?"

"Obama's gonna be president, and there's not a goddamn thing you can do about it. How's that feel?" - Fishgrease

        •  Nah it can't be that direct or else (0+ / 0-)

the press will declare "all the gloves are off" (talk radio of course will say this so it must be true!!!) They will then allow the GOP to call Obama anything short of a n*gger, because he "started it at the debate". That is why he would need to infer it not directly attack McCain this way.

But it would be a nice attack.

indies like me. I'm solidly Obama but if he said something like that my enthusiasm for him would be seriously diniahed. As a black person I don't see rezko reference or wright references automatically as racial attacks. If McCain was dumb enough to specifically say something unmistakeably racial Obama need only respond by being as shocked as 90 percent of Americans would be. Any other reference to ayers or rezko or wright should be refuted on the merit of the argument itself (and quickly b/c mostly indies don't care with maybe the exception of wright)And Obama just moves on to issues people actually care about. Obama gains nothing by being racially oversensitive and spending more than 10 or 15 seconds responding to non-issues based slurs.

            •  agreed (0+ / 0-)

I would think that after two debates showing that the Dem presidential and vice presidential candidates, who showed class and restraint, actally WON, we would know better than to go down the low road.  Obama and Biden did not try to score cheap shots or parry every verbal attack but neither did they cower.  Istead, they judicially counterpunched and constantly made pivots back to the core issues.  That's what wins people in the middle-- the moderates, the independents and the undecideds. The silliness about wanting to score  sound bite might get a headline but it isn't the way to closing the deal in the race that Obama-Biden is already winning.

      •  It would feel (0+ / 0-)

so satisfying to hear Obama say that.  But we'd be crucified for it.
