  •  McCain's own legislative record (8+ / 0-)

is the proof of these themes made tangible.

For 26 years he has not been a 'leader' in the republican Party, rather, he has gone exploring what combination of scandal, food fights, excitements thru manipulated press stories could propell him to the front ranks of executive power contenders in the Party.

His 'maverickness' has been calculated to court a section of republicans that are not fundementalists or know nothing bigots.

Unfortunately for his prospects, those groups are a declining  element in republican politics.

After his loss in the inside party politics to Bush, McCain tacked hard and dropped his earlier cultivation of moderates because there wasn't any future in it. They simply were as marginalized as he himself has made himself over the years.

Now his desperate embrace of formerly despised  elements reveal him as the Hypocrite In Chief that he has always been in this political career, in the spotlight of a national campaign.

From manufactured "hero" myth  to cover up his pathetic "struggles" as a POW and milk it to impress low info voters in Arizona, to credentials as a "reformer" or financial defender of middle class Americans it is all smoke and mirrors.

His personality, his anger, his essential dishonesty, his lack of genuine core positions except his stroking his own ego/ambition  is in keeping with the rest of him.

land is a telling feature.  JSM declined the offer of official Navy psychs because that was obviously open to review and shared with the military. Awkward for advancement in those circles.

Also sheds some light on his need to create a legend about his activities for the prior years.

Looking at the life and career and these personality issues, there are some serious black holes that like the Navy did back then, disqualify JSM for the highest responsibility post in America.

    •  Why hasn't the Keating 5 scandal been (4+ / 0-)

      part of campaign coverage?

If McCain is going to go after Obama on Rezko and Ayers, I hope Obama is ready to respond with Keating.

Has there ever been a serious presidential candidate who had been censured by the Senate?

John McCain would rather lose his soul than lose an election.

I could say "NO". . . because projecting current trends out 2 weeks suggests that Palin/McCain will not be in the "serious presidential candidate" category.
