shouldn't be telling me what I should and shouldn't care about. For one thing, some of us have been living "the terror" which many of you just woke up to. We need all of these voices, in this instance I said I didn't care about the votes. That doesn't mean I don't care about the strategy overall. Or maybe the purpose of Dkos is to be lectured by 'liberals' who otherwise don't give a fuck about the destruction of people of color's communities outside of getting them to vote democratic.

    •  ROFL! Now I'm a racist too? (0+ / 0-)

      Wow.

      •  I didn't call you a racist.. (2+ / 0-)

But you know, you're the one who got defensive over it so perhaps that is part of your problem. It wouldn't be the first time you've been called one. And to add insult to injury instead of looking at that as a possible valid criticism, you went into full flailing mode of getting the community to back you up on your 'non-racism'.

I own what I say and what I mean. The purpose of this community isn't to tell me how to be a democrat or what I should care about as a democrat. If you honestly want to get Obama elected, you'd be wise to take note of the fact that you're not just interacting with people from the same background as you.

    •  By the way... from the FAQ (0+ / 0-)

But it's not a liberal blog. It's a Democratic blog with one goal in mind: electoral victory.

But you would know that since you read it, right?

      •  It's more than that and a FAQ can't really (1+ / 0-)

encompass what this site is about. I understand that this is how some of you have learned to function being overly aggressive and snarky all the time, but honestly this blog is more than about elections or eletoral victory. A quick perusal of the rec list and the content there-in can show you this.

Winning on technicality is not winning, the purpose of pens could be for writing utensils but they have many other functions and benefit people in many different ways. I'm not the enemy, and I'm not someone here trying to get into a pissing match with you, but what I am saying is that I'm not going to let you talk to me as if I'm garbage just because you're in the safety of your home. Back up, take a breath and recognize some of us are in a different struggle and also struggling with you and different viewpoints are always welcome.

Tell me how, snark on Obama's stinky plane helps us win elections and then tell me how that is more important than what Irwin is talking about to the people who are affected by it.

        •  The FAQ was written by the people (0+ / 0-)

who run the site, so yes it does encompass what it is supposed to be about.

And winning on a technicality is something most people here would be happy with.

And you tell me how calling McCain a terrorist is going to win an election.

          •  I didn't say it would help win an election (0+ / 0-)

I think that was the point was that I was less interested in that and more interested in the facts being reported. Now, you're just dancing around trying to be "right", instead of actually being right. You and I are arguing two different things and when I said winning on a technicality I was talking about your argument style, not about the election.

By the way, as I stated before the site is much more than that. It may have one central purpose, but people certainly participate in this community on more than one level with more than one purpose.

For one, I remember Kos when it had very few readers and I remember what it was and what it was supposed to be. I read the open threads, certainly not all of that is with the purpose of getting a democrat elected. It's a community with many different purposes and a FAQ can't sum that up regardless of who it was written by.

            •  Yes, well how about reporting the facts (0+ / 0-)

when we aren't less than a month away from what is probably the most important election in history.

              •  It's pretty important to the people it happened (1+ / 0-)

to.. which was my point from the beginning. I'm less interested in bombarding the media with this story and more interested with it simply being told. I think I've said this constantly.

I understand how important the election is, but that doesn't mean I put away everything that has happened in my life to fall lock step inline with you in order to deliver a victory to Obama.

There's enough time for reporting this and for reporting other things. There's not only one way to be a democrat, a liberal or to help Obama win. You are arguing something that was never proposed and you're getting amped up on your own misunderstanding of my statements in order to do? What? You're not going to change my opinion and I'm not going to be cowed. The likelihood is that neither will you. I only spoke up to say that it's important to those of us who have experienced terror at the hands of our own government.

          •  I'm stupid to get in the middle of this... (0+ / 0-)

but isn't the site also about electing good Democrats?  Reforming the party?  It's not as though we're all on the website of the DNC.

What I mean is that it's easy to lose hold of the more fundamental matters during the election season, but that (in my understanding) this community does have a commitment to be about more than Democratic electoral success. And that this diary, though it's about John McCain, isn't really about the election, is it?  I agree that "calling McCain a terrorist" isn't going to win us votes, as I said upthread, but that doesn't mean that it isn't important to remember what happened.
