I'm pretty sure the cross post is from http://www.raisingkaine.com/
    It's a Virginia-centric political blog.

here.   By the way, we call ourselves "RK" not "Raising Kaine" because we are far more than a blog about one politician, and also because we have serious and deep philosophical differences with Tim Kaine (e.g., he's not a progressive).

Occasionally, when you name an organization (or a UID) you can freeze yourself in time. I always liked "DumpTerryMcAuliffe"'s posts, but in a year or two, we're gonna be saying "Wha?" "Who?"

Same problem professional services companies have. The founders name the company after themselves and eventually they become CH2M Hill or PBS&J or G&O or BBD&O or ... well you get my drift.

No matter how cynical I get, it's just never enough to keep up. -- Lily Tomlin

I don't think anyone was thinking long term, as it was started to get Kaine elected.

Eric Grim and I were very much thinking long term, but we felt that the name "Raising Kaine" was too good to pass up and also we had ZERO idea if the blog would even be successful. Little did we know that it would become one of the most widely read progressive state blogs in the country (and that Tim Kaine would turn out to not be at all progressive).  Such is life. :)

it looks like Terry is running for Governor of Virginia, much to the consternation and delight of many. Mostly Brian Moran.

          •  It is ultimately good, though (0+ / 0-)

if it saves us from nominating Brian Moran. He's a good man...with zero chance of beating the GOPer, Taliban Bob McDonnell.

Why do you keep repeating, over and over again, that Brian Moran has "no chance" to beat "Taliban Bob?"  Is that constructive in any way, shape or form, when Moran very well could be our nominee (and when he's a good guy, fairly progressive, etc.)? And yes, that was a rhetorical question.

in a Democratic primary, we should never argue against the other guy. If Brian is the nominee, he has all the support I'm able to provide. But until then, I intend to support Creigh Deeds and express that a large part of my support is Creigh's greater general election electability.

You may disagree, and I look forward to reading anything you might have to say in favor/against any of the three candidates. As long as we're fair in the primary and united in the general, I can't see a problem.

and may not get involved at all.  I happen to think that Creigh, Brian and Terry are all good people and I look forward to hearing their pitches to Virginia voters about why they'd make the best nominee for governor in 2009.

and a good Democrat. It's a shame such a great blog continues a jihad against him for endorsing the more electable candidate in VA-11.

To the contrary, we've been very measured in our tone, but have disagreed with Gov. Kaine on policy grounds.  Let me just list a few areas where Kaine has not been progressive, and where our disappointment with his governorship has grown since 2006.

          1. Kaine signed the estate tax repeal into law.
          1. Kaine said he opposed state funding of stem cell research.
          1. Kaine flipped on the Tysons Tunnel (and smart growth in northern Virginia) under pressure from "Big Dig" Bechtel.

3a. Kaine continues to support a NO-BID contract on the Metro to Dulles project to "Big Dig" Bechtel, instead of insisting that it be opened up for true competitive bidding. That's outrageous.

          1. Kaine signed the reregulation bill written by Dominion Virginia Power lobbyists for the benefit of that company.
          1. Kaine has supported building a new coal-fired power plant in Wise County, also under pressure from Dominion (and Big Coal).
          1. Kaine signed the transportation "monstrosity" into law.  That included the hated "abuser fees," ultimately repealed following a huge grassroots rebellion and a petition that gathered around 150,000 signatures in a matter of weeks.  It also included regional tax authorities that threatened to balkanize Virginia and were later thrown out as unconstitutional by the State Supreme Court. Brilliant!
          1. Kaine has, on several occasions when he had the chance, failed to support the more progressive candidate in a Democratic primary.  Actually, the ones that really bugged me were when Kaine refused to endorse Henry Light over corrupt DINO Johnny Joannou, and when he refused to endorse Donald McEachin over Benny "Benedict" Lambert, a DINO who had endorsed and campaigned for GEORGE ALLEN!  This is a pattern, and not a good one.
          1. Kaine is reportedly ready to cave to tobacco industries on smoke-free restaurants and bars.  This has actually been an area where Kaine's been progressive and shown leadership, so let's hope that isn't the case.

By the way, not many elected Democrats will speak out publicly regarding Tim Kaine as we do at RK, but believe me, I hear from them all the time how disappointed they are in Kaine's record as governor. Also, there are a LOT of things I hear and have personally experienced that I'm not going to talk about publicly, but that are not good at all. And no, they have nothing to do with your boy Gerry Connolly.

Thank you for visiting Raising Kaine, the voice of Progressive Virginia.
