I was talking to a guy as I was leaving the liquor store last week.  He was a white guy in his mid-70's who, I'll admit, I expected to be a McCain supporter.  (Although I'm only a few months away from 60 myself and most of my friends are supporting Obama, at least here in Maryland, my experience with people over 70 during the primaries was that while we got some of them, most of them didn't think Obama had enough experience.)

This guy sees my Obama t-shirt and says, "Obama, huh?  Well, I sure HOPE he gets it!"  This led to a conversation in which he told me that he was only 3 years older than McCain, and that there's NO WAY he thinks anybody who will be his age during his first term has any business being President of the United States, especially during such crucial times, and even more especially when the Vice-President would be "that fool he picked from Alaska."

This guy said he'd voted for Reagan, and had voted for roughly equal numbers of Republicans and Democrats over the years, but he was adamant that McCain was simply too old.  He said he liked McCain 8 years ago and respected what he'd been through in Vietnam, and that while he thought McCain was too old, he'd been willing to consider him at first, but the more he saw of him, and especially of Sarah Palin, the more obvious it became that Obama was the only real choice.  And as he also said, "Obama seems really smart, and really calm, and we sure need that in the White House these days."

Suggested new McCain ad tagline: "I'm John McCain, and I approved of these lies."

    •  My Mom, too. At 90, she was (7+ / 0-)

thinking about McCain (probably doesn't remember how old 72 is :) but his choice of Palin sealed the deal. She's solid for Obama now.

And remember... if you don't like the news, go out and make some of your own.

are still sending around the anti-Obama hate emails. It makes me very upset to get this crap they send around and it has caused a huge rift in the family, which is very upsetting.  They claim they are not being antagonist when they send around the spew that they pass off as truth.  When I correct the record or point out snopes the rest of the family pounces on me for upsetting the old men.  I think that is simply absurd to not hold them accountable just because of their age.  They know damm well what they are sending and they don't care if it is not true.  If it confirms their cast in stone ideology they seem to think truth does not matter.  The most common family response it "well both sides do it" and don't be so sensitive.
I just want this election over and my family back.  Actually, I don't know if my family will ever speak to me again...that is how divisive this election has become.
