as a recent convert from being a neocon (seriously) there is no doubt that ALOT of people are very uneasy with Muslims.   Some of the blame rests with those from our country, some with Muslims themselves of course.  It takes a huge amount of self confidence and open mindedness to peer beyond the crude stereotypes for many people- including me at many points.

The key,as you have said, is not making politically convenient alliances that go against your long term interests as a liberal person.

To find oneself in bed with Pat Robertson because you despise Osama Bin Laden is a warning to simply buy or build oneself a better bed.

    •  But the point is that Barack isn't a muslim, so (1+ / 0-)

when we do have a muslim candidate, why don't we explore all these interesting issues at that time.

When someone says 'I won't vote for a muslim' just point out that there isn't one running.

this person thinks that Obama will be somehow give some "advantage" to Muslims to the detriment of Hindus.

It's a nonsense way of thinking politically- so indirect that it can't possibly be explained rationally.
