    Should someone with a PhD be able to think critically? Yes. Of course. That's the aim of higher education (speaking as liberal arts sort myself). But does that mean they all are able to? I wish.

    A degree, even a PhD, is no guarantee that someone can think critically - it's only proof that they can fulfill a prescribed set of criteria for a specific area of study. And not necessarily anymore than at a perfunctory level at that.

    Anyone who's spent time dealing with people with education PhDs (as I have, regrettably) will know exactly what I'm talking about.

      a college degree shows you're educated in a field of study. Most are critical thinkers but there are a few who slip through the cracks.
