and probably only graduated near the bottom of his class because his dad and grandfather were admirals.

My Dad was in the top 10 in his class.  He spent some time "walking the Yard" (punishment for infractions) because of missing formations because of oversleeping - because he had been up late helping his fellow classmates with their homework.  He not once, ever, not once during his life, violated the USNA Honor Code.  Sen. McCain violated that Code then and he has shamefully violated it during this campaign by his continual, unrelenting and remorseless lies. And you are 1000 percent correct that Sen. McCain never would have been allowed to graduate had he not been the son and grandson of Admirals -- nor would his abysmal flight record have allowed him to continue as a pilot absent these connections.  My Dad was a pilot and later an intelligence officer and professor.  I am almost relieved that my Dad did not live to watch this disgraceful campaign.  And I am certain that, were he still alive, he would have, for the first time in his life, voted for the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.

thrown out twice.  Once for demerits, but daddy being a big-shot admiral kept the commander from throwing flyboy out.  The second time was when he was caught hiding forbidden contraband (a TV I think) but McNasty convinced a school mate to take the fall for him.

A real class act.  I'll look for links for this, but wanted to get the comment posted.
