If I remember correctly from my mother's case, the Sinemet (levodopa) dosage had to be adjusted periodically as PD progressed, and a side-effect of the wrong dosage was tongue protrusion and lip-smacking.  But I'm no M.D.....

He did grimace quite a bit--medication related--but it always looked outside of himself, rather than a deliberate response to what he was hearing or seeing or thinking about.  McCain's grimacing was a clear response to Obama's words, and his disdain for Obama was evident every single moment.  To me, it looked most like a way to keep from leaping out of the chair and tearing Obama by the throat.  I would hate to excuse McCain for his loathsome, patronizing, mean-spiritedness by blaming it on Parkinsons or even age.  People with Parkinson's have enough problems--as you know--without having to admit that toad McCain into their ranks!

And also that people with PD can function normally especially in the early stages.

I wish the McCain people would be fully disclosive about his medical records to silence conjectures and distractions.  Just as there are laws about financial disclosure, if there isn't a similar law about health disclosure for presidential candidates, I wonder if one should exist.
