  •  The Fix says Obama was arrogant (0+ / 0-)

    • The "Split Screen Smirk/Smile." Both Obama and McCain seemed to have decided that the best way to nonverbally dismiss their opponent's attacks was to smile. It didn't work for either candidate. McCain's facial expressions seemed contrived, Obama's vaguely arrogant. Just a steady look into the camera will do nicely. Did no one learn from Al Gore's debate sighs in 2000?

Idiot...that's what you get from a Broder disciple...

McCain is not a maverick, he is a gambler!

I see your point, but I have to agree slightly that smiles are dangerous and always risk coming across as condescending or reactive. Obviously, Barack does it a lot better than McCain, being an actual human being.  But it's a risky move...I kind of like the idea of looking into the camera instead, with maybe the barest hint of a smile, as in "America...you and I know that this is total b.s."   But all's well that ends well, and perfect camera tactics weren't necessary to win this one BIG!

    •  Smile too subtle (0+ / 0-)

Kneeslapping guffaws were needed the most.

And how did Obama keep a straight face on the Palin question?
