I've been agitating for this act to become law since it's first iteration.  The only problem is that kids today aren't all that interested and many think they're automatically on a management track when they get hired.  The only problem is that too many managers are now entrenched and it will be even more difficult to break into management's ranks. Hopefully the youthful workers will realize where there true destiny lies and start to sign cards when an organizer hands one to them.

    •  not true, but I see where you are coming from (0+ / 0-)

young people this generation (called millenials by some) have a much higher view of unions that previous generations. I will look for the report where I found that if its useful.

It matters who is delivering the message and how its delivered.

UFCW recently had a successful organizing campaign in NYC at H&M stores, where most of the workers were young. I don't know how they did it, but I would wager the approach and methods had to change.

There's plenty of work to be done on the education of card check and unions, however, for this full potential to be realized.

here's a video some folks in philly put together on EFCA http://www.youtube.com/...

Not as easy when they all think they can ride for free. Why should they pay?  Millennials tend to be very self-centered (I have two teens, so I know what I'm talking about, lol) and while getting them to sign a card check card will no doubt be easier than getting them to come on board in an open shop, I'll believe it when I see it.
