So far this year we are 1 and 7.

This experience has given me a unique perspective on just what the McCain campaign seems to be doing.

This, almost verbatim, is from the dying seconds of our last game.

Me: (Head Coach) Go out there and try a pattern 3. Take J. and F. with you, they haven't played today.

QB: But Mr. G (Offensive Coach) told us that that pattern won't work any more.

Mr. G. : Sorry, I did say that.

Me: Okay. Short patterns. Basics. We'll go with pattern 2, remember your option.

QB: Pattern two, that's where the wide receivers are tight in?

Me: Just go out there and have fun...

Mr. G. Yeah. (To me) Just what is Pattern 2 anyway?

Me: Hell if I know. What's the score?

Mr. B. (Defensive Coach) We're down by three touchdowns.

Mr. G. I think I have frostbite on my feet.

Me: Just as long as the kids are having fun...

Mr. B: How many kids are out there? Do we have a full side?

Now, we're only playing for staff room bragging rights, resume padding, and the kids' "fun". McCain is playing for something more, and he's playing with something far more dangerous than a football.

Hope he doesn't fumble too much. The game he's playing, someone really could get hurt.

anything about football.  I read it because I once taught in JHS(now called middleschool).  How great a coach is political and a Dem.  Every time I see your name, I think of Catfish Hunter.  I liked his autobio even tho I hate the Yankees.

You make me want to put my 7-year-old kid on your team.

Incidentally, I was thinking the same thing about McCain-Palin and all the surrogates. They know they're beaten. They're just out having fun. Only instead of kids who will actually learn something from it, they're grown-ups who could prompt a lot of ill feelings toward fellow Americans and humans. It's disgraceful.

I generally hate sports analogies, but that one is hilarious.  Thanks for a great chuckle.
