Just got back from a trip to Quincy, CA. The last time I had been up there in an election year, it was wall-to-wall GOP signs. On this trip, practically the first thing I saw on Main St. was the GOP headquarters. Walking down the street, I counted four storefronts with McCain/Palin signs behind the window. Up a side street. A couple more yard signs.

Oh, no. I thought. Here we go again.

Then I turned around and came up Lawrence St. (which runs parallel to Main). There was the Dem HQ. Just as big and buzzing with activity. Driving around town, I started noticing more and more Obama/Biden signs. On one street there was one home with a McCain sign, practically surrounded by homes with Obama and/or Brown signs. Poor bastard, I thought.

Talking to people, I got the sense that jobs and economy were easily the #1 concern and whoever speaks to that is going to do well this year.

By the end of the trip, the Obama sign count easily outnumbered McCain signs. Add "Charlie Brown" to the count and it was 2:1 Dem over GOP. It was something amazing to behold. This looks to be, by far, the closest a Dem has come to winning CA-04. Never in a million years could I have imagined a Dem running against an out-of-money Republican candidate.  The world has gone topsy-turvy. And I'm all the happier to see it.

    Best of luck Charlie Brown!
