  •  This is so fresh, so new, it's got to be over- (4+ / 0-)

whelming.  But try not to let it overwhelm you too long.  Remember, you're lucky in many ways.  You've gotten prior notice. For many, they know nothing until they're already out the door.

So, don't you and your husband waste anytime looking at each other or looking back at what you might have bought that you didn't really need.  Instead put on your thinking caps and develop some plans.

You were a teacher - get back to subbing, and put every penny you earn into a savings for if the worst should happen.  Look at other options for picking up some cash.  There have been diaries here listing lots of ideas.  Start following up now - while you have time to get ahead of the bad news.

Perhaps your husband should be sending out his resume now.  It's nearly always easier to find a job when you still have a job.  There aren't many out there right now, but there are going to be fewer later.

Most of all - don't give up hope.  And don't feel guilty for hoping you won't be one of the ones getting hurt.  That's taking it too far.  Attitude has so much to do with how life will treat you.  I hope your husband doesn't go into work assuming he'll be one of the ones to go.  He needs to have a positive attitude now more than ever.

Good luck.  Hope it's all a false alarm for you and it all turns out good.

And I'm afraid you and I (and many more of us) are going to be repeating it like the Litany before this is over.  We have totally GOT to get Obama and a solid Dem Congress - it's our only chance to turn the economy around.
