    The characters in the book are all interesting, thoughtful, at times funny even amidst the war in which they are fighting.  The book started slow, is one of those a couple of pages about this, then a couple of pages about that, for the most part.  Ben, the main character, is very conflicted about his role in the military (as well he should be).

    But, Doig is a master with scenery, weather, and description so wear a sweater when reading it, because it sure is cold in Montana.

    One very interesting feature is how large a role women pilots had during the war.
