One of the first items in the next Congress had better be a bill outlawing all these favorite Republican voter suppression tactics, with felony penalties.

Thanks for the good news out of GA, of all places.

From caging, to photo ID's, to voter roll purging, to throwing out provisional ballots without due process, to other voter suppression dirty tricks against suspect classes, there's a lot for a Federal bill to cover.

        •  How to define residency isn't in that list. (1+ / 0-)

It's classic state law.  The stuff you're talking about falls within bona fide suppression, stuff for which there's no other legit reason than suppression.  This dispute was solely about how to define residency, though.

being attached to those "other voter suppression dirty tricks", such as passing out flyers claiming false endorsement, wrong parties, changed voting dates and/or locations, etc. Anyone who would try to mislead someone into missing their chance to vote deserves to lose some of their own freedoms. Especially those who came up with the flyer in the first place, and paid people to distribute it.

or to the unanomious Supreme Court.

        •  After looking at the case, it was rightly decided (0+ / 0-)

since the Secretary's interpretation is "clearly erroneous."  That particular passage in the decision, though, is still bullcrap-tastic.  The rest of the decision is pretty solid, so I chalk that sentence up to a prank by the judge's clerk.
