But of course, you're right. And thanks for the reality check.

You are reminding us of history.

I was here in 2004 as well and remember the optimism that soared with the leak exits and crashed when reality struck. It was beyond depressing. However, I also remember at that time people were cherry picking polls and looking for good news while ignoring the news that was not so good (or telling people to STFU if they were peddling any bad news).  Hell, I was guilty of that myself.  I don't see that as much this year (although pockets of it still exist).

This year I am cautiously optimistic when I probably should be wildly optimistic.  In 2004 I was wildly optimistic, when I probably should have been cautiously optimistic.

During this election year the community is bigger, the sources for information has expanded, the activism seems to be more robust, the wind appears to be at our backs and I doubt any person on here will take this election for granted.  No one did in 2004 and they won't in 2008.

Oh, and this year we have a candidate who has stayed away from the Bob Shrum national election consulting curse. That's got to count for something. ;) Not to mention Obama and his team has been watching past elections and internalizing those lessons. Damn fine team he has there. Damn fine.

Do you ever get the feeling that the only reason we have elections is to find out if the polls were right? - Robert Orben
