  •  Why is it the best one? in a Federal election (0+ / 0-)

    not a state election?

    1. Therefore there should be a Federal elections act that covers all the states with consistency.
    1. The information on the registration form should be complete. It defines required length of residency before an election, it should also define how long the residency is expected to continue afterwards.

...but what does that have to do with THIS issue? There isn't a federal elections act, and the form didn't define what residency means. But if it is true that members of Vote from Home (as is suggested by another commenter in this diary) knew the definition of residency but registered based on the language of the registration form -- language they saw as ambiguous and decided to take advantage of -- then I have little sympathy for them, and they can't be surprised that partisans on the other side made a fuss about it. Again, if they had stuck to registering voters while voting in their home states, there wouldn't be a controversy.

      •  There was a loss of a dozen votes (0+ / 0-)

compared with all the votes they may have secured by their GOTV efforts. You are right, they shouldn't have pushed for their own votes.

I just get confused from up here in Canada where the government, no matter what party is in power, actually makes it very easy to vote. They take the initiative in registration, sending us the forms. We get put on the voters' list by checking a box on our income tax returns. There are toll free info lines.

        Hey good luck on Tuesday!

...in a sane country! I swear, if Toronto didn't have arctic weather, and I could get a visa, and find a good job, and...and...and..., I'd move myself right to Canada in a heartbeat....
