  •  Indonesia invaded East Timor in 1975 (0+ / 0-)

    East Timor was a Portuguese colony  for hundreds of years (while the Dutch and British ruled the rest of the Indonesian islands)  In the last days of the Salazar regime when Portugal's colonial empire was collapsing, East Timor declared itself independent. Just a week and half later, Indonesia invaded and occupied it until the UN sponsored referendum in 1999.

    Once social change begins,it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read...You cannot oppress people who are not afraid anymore.
