University of Virginia lost today on a scramble hail mary-ish pass on the last play of regulation.  If you are a UVa football fan like me, you haven't had a season better than 9 wins in something like 20 years.  You EXPECT to lose games you're supposed to win.

Democrats have been the same way.  Since 1980 we have been fighting uphill against the neocon philosophy, watching people vote against their own self-interests because they are conned into believing either God wants them to do something or that "trickle down" works and that deregulating power plants and spewing pollution is the best thing for all of us.  We have been on the verge of victory many times only to lose.  We watched Clinton come into being president but lose control to the Republicans who dominated congress starting in 1994.

2006 was the first time we were supposed to win that we actually executed and did as well as the optimistic projections.  But we're all too gunshy after 2004, 2002, 2000, etc., etc., etc.

The cost of losing this one is too dear - with all of us saying that an Obama win would finally repudiate this great evil ideology, the flip-side - McCain winning - would be seen as the great validation and set our movement back an unmeasurable amount.  The stakes on this one are way too high.

That's why we're all nervous.  We're used to losing, and for this one, the cost of a loss is unfathomable.

Technically we lost in overtime, but it never should have gotten there.  The team choked on the last drive of the 4th quarter and Miami pulled off a miracle.  That we then fumbled in OT just was icing on the cake.

    •  I can respect people being nervous but (0+ / 0-)

when they start dismissing the accuracy of credible pollsters and embracing pollsters that lean republican, I find that pointless and lame.  I'm not arguing that the point spread will be 14....just that it is silly to dismiss all polls with +6 leads as being outliers.
