For those of us living in bright-red or bright blue states, working in swing states becomes a bi-ennial activity, whether we are calling in from a distance, flying in for the weekend before the election, or moving to a swing state three months out from the election (I've done all three)

When I spent three months in St Louis in 2004, we had volunteers in our office from Canada, Israel, Illinois (both Chicago and East St.L.) Montana, Wyoming (me) Texas, California, New York and Vermont. Those were just the ones who came to St. L. at least a month before the election. On election day, volunteers poured out of the woodwork from all around the country.

Yesterday, I found myself once again in another state, being trained for election day voter protection activities in Colorado. I was in a training session in a room full of about 500 lawyers who were all volunteering, and at least 1/3 of us came from out of state.
