  •  My old hometown!!! (3+ / 0-)

Oh, I wish I were there to see this!

It isn't redistribution of wealth. It's reinstitution of fairness.

it's seen some hard times lately, these many years after the Billy Joel song.

Especially the middle class neighborhoods.  Homes that you could see were cherished by their owners...but that had fallen into some disrepair and shabbiness.

Home repair and upkeep is so very expensive, and one of those non-urgent expenses that always gets waylaid when times are tough.

It is one of the reasons we ultimately left.  It feels at times like a city in its death throes, and it breaks my heart.  So much different from the days when Hess's was a celebrity destination for shopping (locals will know what I'm talking about!) and downtown was safe and full of activity and life.

We still own our house on the Parkway (again, locals will know where I mean) and get back there a few times a year from here in Phoenix, but I worry every time we are back about the slow slide into decay.

Knowing the storied and proud history of Allentown makes it even sadder...

were amazing....but again, most were in very sad condition.
