  •  are you sure Alabama has 0 organizers? (0+ / 0-)

Remeber DNC doesn't equal the Obama compaign...The DNC paid for 2-4 volunteers per state..gooing back to 2005. Now the Obama team took advantage of them in some of those states.

Dean's strategy was explicitly for all 50 states...even Alaska (where a convicted republican felon is competitive with a respected democratic mayor!!!).

You are right about Obama's campaign, he only fought in places where he was in shooting range. I think most of us realize that, but are being imprecise.

here, e.g..  Eventually it did open - but that was only a local thing.  No from-the-Obama-campaign organizers to speak of, if any.

If they existed, they were hidden:  I have been in rather close contact with several of the County Democratic HQ around the state.  Word was, "Oh, so-n-so is supposed to be (or reckons themselves to be) the 'Obama person', but no one really knows who that is."

No county or part of Alabama was more organized, nor worked harder than the Madison County Democratic Party (Huntsville, Alabama -- big NASA, high tech, etc. area) and they did it absolutely on their own.

I can't say this enough times:  individual counties and droves of volunteers and certainly candidates worked like hell with all kinds of enthusiasm for Obama and all down-ticket candidates.  So I'm very proud of what was done in this state.  For the first time since 1962 a Democrat (Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright) was elected to Congress out of Alabama's Second Congressional District).

I'm just saying that there was not an Obama or National Campaign here.  Obama signs and buttons and bumper stickers and enthusiasm and all that, certainly.  But the National Campaign wrote-off Alabama.  That's fine, as the EC vote and popular vote truly do give President-Elect Obama a mandate, if ever there was one.  Just saying that the "50 State Strategy" meme does not square with what actually happened.

Again, a 35 State Strategy is much, much better than all those "8-10 State Strategy" campaigns from elections before.  But we should not call it a 50 State Strategy if, in fact, it was not a true 50 State Strategy.
