hang in there until ALL THE FREAKIN' VOTES ARE COUNTED.

I don't know how it works in Minnesota, but we had (as many here know) a similar governor's race in '04. Dino Rossi was declared the winner after the first vote count, but the margin was under .5% (that's half a percent) so by law they had to have an automatic machine recount. The recount shrank Rossi's lead by about half (I forget the numbers but at that point it was somewhere between 300-400 votes).

Now the state Democratic Party had a choice. They could throw in the towel and congratulate Rossi as governor; or they could pay for another, manual recount, with the proviso that if the recount reversed the results of the election, the state would refund the money paid. The Dems decided to fight it out, pay for the recount, and in the end Christine Gregoire won the election by 129 votes.

    Sometimes perseverence pays.

(Oh, and the Republicans took the election to court, and in spite of having a hand-picked judge in a hand-picked venue, the judge not only dismissed their case, he found four people had actually voted illegally for Rossi -- so the net result was Gregoire won by 133 votes. Thank FSM we don't have to go through that again this year.)

So hang in there, Minnesotans. Don't let Coleman railroad you. Count the votes, count all the votes, take it to the wire, and if it so happens that he retains his seat, so be it -- but at least you'll have upheld the rule of law rather than the rule of men.

We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty.

    Now the real work begins.
