  •  Am I the only one who noticed the deep symbolism (11+ / 0-)

of that speech in Manassas?  This was his last campaign stop for the whole campaign.  Of course that made it a very special event.  I was watching it on C-span, one town over from Manassas, from my bedroom in Warrenton.  Then during the speech when Obama mentioned being in Manassas, I thought "My GOD! He is in MANASSAS!"

MANASSAS!  The site of the first battle of the Civil War!  A place where Virginians and we southerners fought to keep blacks in bondage.  This was the town where Barack Obama was giving a speech on his way (we hoped) to becoming President.  Of all places, he had chosen Manassas to end his campaign.
Had they planned to highlight such a contrast between past and present?  Here he was, a black man, on the cusp of becoming President, giving a speech in such a place.  It hit me like thunderbolt.  "Look how far we have come!!!"

...and Obama did not even need to mention it.
