kinda like wallpaper after the election.

undervotes? a whole new topic. But the scanning technology is, to my mind, the biggest problem. not to mention the hacks who translated the ballot erroneously to foreign speaking citizens.

What we call god is merely a living creature with superior technology & understanding. If their fragile egos demand prayer, they lose that superiority.

So, um, how many languages do YOU speak?  My neighborhood in Minneapolis is full of Ethiopian, Somalian, and Tibetan immigrants, many of whom are illiterate even in their own language and many of whom are voting for the first time. And in Minnesota, as elsewhere, it's hard to find enough election judges to even staff all the precincts, much less provide translation services!  (I feel rather guilty for not election-judging this year)

Minnesota's Scan-Tron voting machines work very well, and are easy to understand.  I've BEEN an election judge in a poor, immigrant-heavy neighborhood, and we saw very few problems with the ballots themselves.  The ballots are relatively easy to read and easy to use, and I trust the machines and the process.  By the time we get down to a sub-300 vote margin out of millions of votes, it's trickier to deal with the mismarked ballots, but that would be true with ANY paper ballots.  Want to switch to touchscreens?

In all honesty, the problem isn't the arcana of translation or ballot handling in this state.  The problem is that Franken ran a crappy campaign.  That's why he ran a full twelve points behind Obama across the state - a quarter of the Obama voters wouldn't vote for Franken!  And it's not that Obama is magical, either.  El Tinklenberg outperformed Obama in CD6 as a challenger to Michelle Bachmann, and Tim Walz won handily in his deep red district.
