    And this is a discussion that I've been having with several semi-willing participants for the past few weeks. My first thought was that the difference between legalizing same-sex marriages and polygamy or incestuous marriage was that people are born incestuous, or polygamous. Those aren't orientations; they're clearly choices with many viable alternatives to choose. I think that's the strongest differentiation here. Gay marriage is a civil rights issue and those other situations aren't.

    But then I had to admit, that I'd support gay marriage if homosexuality were simply a fetish. The bottom line for me is that it's an issue between consenting adults, which means that those rights really should be extended to other groups as well, even if I find their lifestyles yucky.

    That makes it a harder point to argue for me becuase it's so much less likely to pass with the general public.
