Are we talking paper ballots, old fashion card machines (a la NY), touchscreens, etc.?

Do we know whether there are uncounted absentee, early or provisional ballots?

Our long national nightmare is over.

    •  MN Ballots all paper/optical read (11+ / 0-)

The recount statute requires that the ballots be counted by hand to determine actual voter intent, even if unreadable by the machine.

It's all fill in the oval paper ballots that have only been machine counted so far.
*A few small precincts were hand counted.
*A small number of random precincts have been hand count audited to verify the machine count.

The state mandated recount will check for voter intent, not just which ovals were filled in.
The hand count audits to date resulted in a net addition of two votes for Franken which have not been included in the current totals.
The hand count audits did not check for voter intent, only which ovals were filled in, i.e. they were only checking for machine ballot counting errors.
Hand recount audits should complete Friday but the results will not be included in the certified results.

There are at least 561 uncounted absentee ballots, which could have been rejected for a variety of reasons including unmatched signatures (missing middle names, nicknames, etc) or voter not registered in the correct precinct.

The results will be certified next Tuesday, the hand recount will begin the next day with at least one recount location in each county, more in the larger cities (every courthouse?).
