  •  how is this gonna work? (0+ / 0-)

Krugman, and most health care experts and House Democrats working on health care reform, have pushed for mandated health coverage because it's about the only way to really ensure the cost-savings to the whole system that are necessary to provide universal coverage.

If you mandate coverage, but do not offer a low, profit-free gvt insurer like an expansion of medicare, how does that help me afford to get covered? What's to stop insurers from quoting the same rates they quote today? How do you stop them from colluding?

I'd love affordable health care, but the only way I can see that being offered is thru a gvt entity.

    •  Krugman is wrong. Mandated is not the way to (0+ / 0-)

universal coverage. He has a blind spot here but he is invested in it.

The Mass experiment shows it will fail. So a couple hundred thousand  Mass low-middle income folks now have to pay a fine to the state and have even less money for HC expenses. Simply great. And the insurance corps are loving it.

Oh it is also way over the budget of state funds now.

We are in a time where it is risky NOT to change. Barack Obama 7-30-08
