    actually, it is Paul Krugman's from Conscience of a Liberal, who got these figures from the WHO:

    United States     $6102               77.5
    Canada                3165               80.2
    France                  3150               79.6
    Germany              3043               78.9
    Britain                  2508               78.5

    So, we are paying almost twice as much on health care as most other advanced western nations and getting no real benefit as expressed in life expectancy.  Krugman discusses why that is so, suggesting that France, which the WHO ranked number one in the world (we are 37th) is comparable to our Medicare, but applies to everyone.

    If you don't own a copy, you may want to check it out of your local library, he does a great job of looking at health care under the different systems.
