  •  I`m doubling the size of my garden (4+ / 0-)

    and just planted 2 peach trees. Don`t know if it will be enough, but I have lots more yard to convert if needed. Also learning blacksmithing as a fallback trade.Everyone will need stuff fixed for barter. I just hope it isn`t going to get that bad.

      Worst case, all us doomsayers are wrong and you have too many vegetables and a stronger back.

      Everyone should get their hands on some seeds and a copy of John Jeavon's book(s). He is the guru of bio-intensive gardening, which shows how to feed a person for a whole year with a 4000 sq ft garden.

      But people need to understand how economic disruption can lead to shortages of food and other essentials -- not to scare themselves to death, but to motivate themselves to become more self-sufficient. Have a little stored food, grow your self-sufficiency skills, stockpile a few of the things that you cannot afford to be without (e.g., medical necessities).
