It just has to be "I don't want that employee tuning up my car/serving my meal/handling my lawsuit."

really stretches all credulity. You have the possibility of one client deciding they don't want to work with a single associate because of DKos. Something that frankly, isn't likely to happen.

Versus, a group of gay composers and writers deciding they don't want to work with the Artistic Director of a theater, who was recently exposed as a bigot.

That said, my firm's clients are all wonderful and reasonable.

For starters, lots of gays have been fired from 700 Club and other similar entities.

My friend of 20+ years, White Eagle, was a prominent musical guest at the Crystal Cathedral on their Hour of Power broadcast from 1986-1991. When they found out he had AIDS they dropped him like a hot potato in contravention of existing CA law. They turned their backs on him without batting an eye and lied about it repeatedly to people I know personally. The minister who broke his pastoral confidence was prevented by church lawyers from even apologizing until he had to opportunity at a funeral a couple of years later.

Spare me your outrage. I've seen this happen and I know what it looks like. Your arguments are apples and oranges. You are drawing conclusions without the necessary supporting facts.

Eckern has no one to blame but himself. He thought he could stab his associates and patrons in the back and get away with it. He was wrong. I'll shed no tears for him.

          I call bullshit.

    •  People have a right to say that. (1+ / 0-)

This happens in a variety of situations. One dramatic example would be a person arrested for child pornography. Sen. Boxer just fired one of her legislative aids for that. Do you think she should have resisted the public pressure until he was convicted?

      •  "child pornography" is not political speech. (2+ / 0-)

Paying for the saturation broadcast of mocking lies about my family isn't political speech either. It's hate speech. Constitutionally protected in this great country, but hardly analogous to a bumper sticker supporting a candidate.

Why should the targets of hate collaborate for the profits of the funder of hate? Was $1000 such a small percentage of the total LDS spending on slander that the objects of that slander have to help Eckern replace that income? Is your objection to the boycott that he was just a single drop of water in an ocean of bullies?

Or is it that the ads just don't meet your personal test of what is unacceptable to say about a minority? If that's your issue, ask yourself whether it would be different had the free speech been directed at Asian-Americans.

          Just food for thought.
