  •  HRC's respectable antecedents (5+ / 0-)

HRC is a complete waste of time and money, true.

However, I want to mention Steve Endean, a key, early figure in HRC (when it was HRCF) and in its predecessor, the Gay Rights National Lobby. This was in the '70's, and his work took great courage and determination.  He began his work in Minnesota in the early '70's.

I was fortunate to know Steve slightly in the last year or so of his life when I was an intern there, just before the rot started to set in.

When we rightly bash what HRC has become, let's also note that long ago it was a progressive organization, and thank people like Steve Endean for their courage and example.

We are not exempt from history.

hrc, and some other organizations, are more important as living pieces of lgbt history, than as current political organizations.

        Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Nearly a million dollars in Campaign Donations for Politicians while bigoted Propositions passed in CA, AZ, AR, and FL?

        •  I think you're mistaking DM's point (0+ / 0-)

By f'ing up so much in the last several years, HRC has rendered itself less than useless.  It was only relevant years ago, hence DM's statement that its relevance is solely historical.  S/he was not giving them a pass on their current uselessness.

          Unless I'm misunderstanding you?

          •  I think you're mistaking my point :) (0+ / 0-)

18 million dollar headquarters?  What the hell do they need that for?

Why were they donating a million bucks to "sort of kind friendly politicians" while these propositions passed?

            Some screwed up financial priorities.

            •  No, I think we're all on the same page here. (0+ / 0-)

I'm obviously not making my point very effectively.  HRC was respectable long ago, but that ended sometime during the Tim McFeely (corporate to his underpants) period.

I also wanted to mention Steve Endean as an example of the people who were there when it WAS respectable.

I'm all for bashing HRC, their fecklessness, their lack of ovaries/balls when it comes to a fight, and their empire-building BS, including their office building.

Are you guys teasing me?  Cause I'm the sensitive type and I might cry right here and now if anybody thinks I'm defending HRC.  I saw the rot first hand.

              [chin quiver, gulp]
