    i imagine carper was probably trying to broker a deal of Lieberman to accept some sanction in return for letting bygones being bygones.  lieberman wouldn't budge though and his allies now are sending signals that they are going to leave it up to the full caucus.  

    i really have to wonder what's going on behind the scenes.  Lieberman's public position is give me my chairmanship or else, but Im sure in private he has expressed willingness to accept some sort of sanction.  I guess the sides just aren't close enough.  I think Joe's done and I've got $100 for the first candidate who challenges him in the primary.
