My work involves reading questionnaires from people all over the country.  I have endured every variant of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and penmanship you can name.  Can’t answer a question? Just write "I don’t no."  One replied that he left something "in a draw" [drawer].  Another has an "enfection" another warns that something will "emplode".  Some can’t spell the name of their home state.  I knew Germans who could rattle off all the states and their capitals.  I met a Pakistani who could describe the proper use of a preposition – hell, he knew what a preposition was!  While we continue to piss our panties over Intelligent Design and "home schooling", American students consistently score at the bottom in math, science, history, culture and their own native language.  Bill Gates doesn’t recruit workers from overseas because they’re cheaper, it’s because they can spell!  Otto von Bismarck said "the nation that has the schools has the future."  If he was right, we’re skrood.

The fact is that Americans are suffering from legal discrimination.

Your criticisms of Americans represent a very broad spectrum of the US population. In reality, the finest and the best schools are in the USA.

Education in this country is uneven. I think that is what you really mean. Slamming American technologists unfairly due to the fact that all K-12 public school programs here are not achieving the same results is not rational. There is no logical process that will allow you to compare the exceptional individuals that you have cited in your example to the relatively underprivileged in this country. Every country has flaws in its educational system. Your conclusion, that the qualified Americans technologists who are suffering from legal discrimination are being justly persecuted, makes no sense.

You cite an example from Germany, where the educational system is also extremely uneven. It is intentionally constructed to function that way. They educate people in a way that produces very uneven results. You draw on your personal experience. I have also gained from my personal experience. In my experience living and working in Germany, I met Germans who were so poorly educated that they could not produce grammatically correct German sentences - their native language. In fact, it was the subject of many jokes among the Germans that the grammar is often ignored, and probably never even learned correctly in the first place. Slang and grammatical errors are substituted for grammatical correctness when uses in everyday speech (the vernacular of the day.) That does not mean that there is no German who can master the language, or that no German is capable of doing technical work such as developing software.

Gymnasium produces many able students who go on to University.

You are using your generalizations to attack all American citizens. This is not a valid proposition.

Eqwinter, spelling, math, prepositions, and geography don't matter.  Employers have every legal right to bypass the best spellers, mathematicians and YOU!

That's the cool - and devastating - part about discrimination!  Nothing we do matters.  Schools and success don't matter.  Your qualifications don't matter.

Employer behavior is the only thing that matters here.  And these are good corporate citizens, following the law.

You, and your children, were bypassed for these 2008 US job openings in Dec, 2006 and March, 2007.
