There is not much wrong with the Minnesota voter--just look at the totals for Obama.  And while there are MANY reasons why Franken got over 365,000 fewer votes than Obama, the one that stands out is this: after watching Franken in action, thousands of people were absolutely convinced that he would be an even greater embarrassment than Ventura.  And trust me on this, NO ONE wanted a repeat of that humiliation.

I'd have preferred Ventura to Pawlenty these past 6 years.

    •  I would rephrase to say: (4+ / 0-)

"after not bothering to ever actually watch Franken in action, or listen to what he had to say, or read his positions on the issues, or examine what he has done for progressive causes and candidates, thousands of people instead based their opinions on nasty ads by Norm Coleman, the postings of idiots on the internet, and the vague idea that Franken was at some point a 'comedian' and thus were absolutely convinced...."

and told a  "joke" about someone who had a penis growing out of his forehead.  Hard to top THAT for embarrassing and it made Ventura's quip in Playboy about wanting to come back as a 44D bra look like a Sunday School lesson by comparison.  Considering folks were talking about the Playboy quote for weeks, you can only imagine the damage Franken did to himself with his PHC appearance.

And every time Franken had one of his embarrassing moments from the past dredged up, he would say, "I was only trying to make a joke."  Unfortunately, this  only worked with people who ever thought he was funny.  Since lots of folks NEVER thought Franken the least bit funny, this was a problem.

than Coleman is that Dean Barkley got 437,000 votes!  Barkley was an independent that was appointed senator by Ventura for 2 months to fill out Wellstone's term.  Barkley would not have been bad and I am sure would have caucused with the Dems.
