  •  What part of "separate is not equal" is (0+ / 0-)

"making an argument?" I was not intending to make an argument. I was stating a simple truth. I could list you all sorts of specifics pertaining to my situation that would highlight the daily discrimination I face in not being allowed to marry my partner. But why should I have to?

    •  well... (0+ / 0-)

I was stating a simple truth.

Then state it. In words related to your own life and/or the actual workings of actual heterosexism/homophobia.

I could list you all sorts of specifics pertaining to my situation that would highlight the daily discrimination I face in not being allowed to marry my partner. But why should I have to?

If you listed these things we could look at how the diarist's plan would and would not address what you experience.

So there's an answer to this question you asked:

But why should I have to?

That answer is: because if the purpose is to actually challenge and change the discrimination we gay people face in our actual lives, we need to start out with details about how that stuff actually operates in our actual lives. Then, we can look honestly at proposed solutions to see if/how they stack up in terms of affecting what we actually face and experience living in this heterosexist/homophobic society.

So. Here's my request to you:  Please share information on what you and your partner experience in not being allowed to marry, then you can look at the solution proposed by the diarist and evaluate if and how it will address what you actually do face.
