    and reporters are lazy, and skewed to believe company propaganda as unbiased, and union facts as propaganda. And I agree that we need to do a better job.

    The $73 figure was put out by AP with the teeny tiny phrase "automakers say" at the end of a large paragraph citing these figures, it was reproduced in the LAT and, I understand, even McClatchy used it, without ever questioning the credibility of that figure.  

    The surprising thing is that ANYONE who has worked in HR management or labor relations would know immediately that that figure was bogus.  The markup on wages for generous benefits is 30%.  Markup on $24 would be about $8, for a employer FTE cost of $32 per hour.  AP, McClatchy, LAT, and all other media outlets who used that figure without question ALL have HR departments.  It would have been easy to ask if such an incredible figure ($140,000+ annualized) was credible.

     

    "Out of Many, One." This is the great promise of our nation.
